Department of Gender and Women Empowerment – Liberia

Overview

The Department of Gender and Women Empowerment operates under the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) of Liberia. The ministry is responsible for promoting gender equality, protecting children, and improving social welfare across the country.

The department focuses on advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls through policies, programs, advocacy, and partnerships that support national development.

A Liberia where women and girls live free from discrimination, violence, and inequality and have equal opportunities to participate and lead in national development.

Mission

To advance gender equality and empower women and girls through policy development, advocacy, capacity building, service delivery, and strategic partnerships.

Women Empowerment Programs

The department supports programs that focus on economic empowerment, entrepreneurship development, education, and leadership opportunities for women across Liberia.

Gender-Based Violence Prevention

Efforts include community education, legal support services, coordination with law enforcement, and survivor support programs to combat domestic violence, sexual exploitation, and harmful practices.

Liberia Women Empowerment Project (LWEP)

This national initiative aims to increase economic opportunities for women, reduce gender-based violence, and improve access to social services for vulnerable women and girls.
